Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkoth 2009
|
We are now in front of the time of holidays - Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkoth. These three holidays fall together in one month beginning with Rosh Hashanah on September 19 and each of them are very important to the Jewish people.
The economic situation around the globe has made the mission of Light and Mercy more difficult. That mission is to show the compassion of Elohim by providing aid to the families of the victims of terror and other families having needs due to adverse circumstances they have encountered in their lives. Even though donations have diminished significantly, that has not lessened the burden we feel that has been placed in our heart.
At Light and Mercy, over this past year, we have found ourselves in a unique position to provide relief to Israeli families who "fall between the cracks" of the social umbrella here in the Land and would not otherwise receive any aid of food, clothing and shelter except for the generosity of people like you. Here are two new immigrant families to Israel that make perfect examples of why we are needed -
In the first family, who have recently moved into the city of Ariel, the parents are both musicians with two children. The father has a problem with his heart and after 3 operations is not functioning well. He has a music-studio but has not been able to activate it due to his present condition. The wife is not able to attend to her part time job because of the requirements of her husband's illness which keeps her at home by his side. Recently, the father was in the hospital to change out a malfunctioning pacemaker but had to return to the hospital a couple of weeks later because of an infection that arose near the pacemaker. Light and Mercy volunteers arranged for a group of people to visit the family, pray for the father and to deliver some gifts of food and clothing.
The second family has 6 children between the ages of 2 to 14 years old and lives in Jerusalem. The father, Aviv is 50% disabled because his foot is amputated and prevents him from working. The mother is trying desperately to find a job but, so far, has been unsuccessful. This family has been living for more then 1 year in a single room - 8 people in one room! Recently, they were required to leave the place they occupied and right now they are living outside in the elements under a tent. Light and Mercy has been giving this family food and clothing and are extending the donations we receive to this family because they are really needy. We involved the television station, channel 2, to broadcast their story and will be published today on the news,
There are many more families with children in Israel whose parents cannot afford to provide them with their basic needs. They are looking toward your generous gift to make it possible for them to celebrate the upcoming Holidays and to give them a little relief from an oppressive situation. Our response to their needs will help to bring some comfort to these families for the New Year through the distribution of food and needed supplies. Please help us meet this need by sponsoring as many families as possible.

School begins Sept. 1 and we want to open a new project to feed hungry children at school. Light and Mercy would like to invite you to adopt a few classes in a school located in the needy area of the city of Netivot. This city has been hit as hard as Sderot with missles from the Gaza but has not received the attention. Please be in prayer with us over this project and we will send full information soon as possible in our next letter to you!
We also would like to help you connect closer to Elohim. We know that everyone from all over the world would like to make a request to the Father-God of Israel in the place closest to the Father's heart. Please write and send us your request and we will put it in the Western Wall (the Kotel) for you in Jerusalem! Let us be your hands to bless the people of Israel and also to help you to be closer to Elohim to be blessed by him. Those who bless Israel will be blessed.
Thank you for your help and support!
