Hamas Attacks !!
|
The fragile lull in rocket fire from Hamas and their allies into the southern towns of Israel was broken this past weekend. Over the Sabbath a barrage of at least 39 missiles and mortars fired from Gaza pummeled the residents of S'derot, Ashkelon, Ashdod and other southern cities in Israel. The attack culminated Sunday morning when terrorists launched missiles and mortar shells every six minutes at S'derot. This besieged city is less than a mile from Gaza and has been the target of thousands of short-range Kassam rockets over the years.
When missiles began bombarding Ashkelon, Moshe Ami, a father of four, went searching for his son. While driving through a residential area, he heard the sirens warn of an impending attack. He left his vehicle to run for cover, but was hit by shrapnel from a medium-range Grad Katyusha missile. He managed to answer a telephone call from is concerned wife and told her he had been injured. Magen David Adom paramedics rushed him to the city's medical center, but an artery in his stomach had been severed and he died during the emergency operation. He was laid to rest Sunday afternoon surrounded by his grieving family and thousands of Israeli's who came to give him honor.
Sixteen other people were wounded in other towns in Israel. The wounded included a young girl and a small baby.President Shimon Peres said Sunday that the missile attacks from Gaza on Israel are nothing less than a "declaration of war." Yet there has never been a time that Hamas was not at war with us. Gaza terrorists resumed their attacks on civilians in southern Israel on Tuesday night, firing a rocket at the Eshkol region. Though the rocket missed area homes and exploded in a field, causing no casualties - it is another reminder of the evil lurking at our border.
