8 Soldiers Wounded in Rocket Attack
|
Eight Israel Defense Force soldiers were wounded Friday evening, two seriously, after mortars fired by Gaza Strip militants hit a military base near Kibbutz Nahal Oz in the western Negev. The soldiers were evacuated to Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva and to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon. Six soldiers were still hospitalized Saturday morning. Doctors had to amputate the leg of one of the soldiers who was brought to the hospital in serious condition. One of the doctors told Israel Radio that the soldier "was seriously hurt in both legs. He underwent X-ray and was immediately brought to the operating room where several teams of surgeons operated on him all night. Unfortunately, we had no choice but to amputate his leg, in hopes that we managed to save the other leg. He is currently on a ventilator and unconscious." An additional Kassam rocket was fired from Gaza at the western Negev overnight. No injuries or damage were reported in the attack. According to the Israeli military, Palestinian militants fired a total of 11 mortars at southern Israel from Gaza on Friday. Three of them landed at the base, the IDF said.

Even though it was Shabbat, the Light & Mercy team felt it important to take to these wounded soldiers our special bags that include a shirt, slippers, toothbrush, toothpaste and other products to help make the stay in the hospital easier while they recuperate.
Some of the injured soldiers we were able to visit are:
Tzvi Ya'akov, married and father of 3 children, was in the shower when the first rocket hit the base. Grabbing his gear, he ran to see what happened. After only a few seconds, another rocket fell only 1.5 meters from where he stood. Even thought he was hurt by shrapnel in his back, he tried to help another friend, Michael, who was closer to the rocket and was injured badly.
Omri Dvorah (20), who was near to Ya'akov, was hurt by shrapnel in his legs, back and waist. Smadar, Omri's mother, expressed her thanks at our caring.
Shamir Matan, hurt by shrapnel in his eye, was in surgery when we arrived. His father asked that we pray that everything would go well with his son.
Michael Kolentzki was injured badly by shrapnel in his head and his arm. He was in emergency room which prevented us from meeting with him.
Noam Nakash (21) was injured badly in his legs. When he saw his father the first sentence he said was, "I lost one leg." As we arrived, the doctor was fighting to save his other leg and his father Ya'akov asked us to pray for his son. He asked for us to write to all of you to please pray for Noam!
These soldiers and their families were glad to hear there are people all over the world who are praying for them, love them and who support Israel who just want to bless the Israelis. Please continue to pray for all those wonderful soldiers and all the Israeli soldiers serving in the IDF, that God will bless them, keep them safe and give them the health they need to serve this country.

8 Israelis Killed in Terror Attack in India
|
A Foreign Ministry statement issued Saturday announced that eight Israelis in all had been killed in a wave of terror attacks that rocked the Indian city of Mumbai, leaving at least 195 people dead and hundreds wounded. An earlier announcement revealed that the bodies of eight hostages had been removed from the Chabad House in Mumbai and taken to local hospitals for identification.
"Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg, the beloved directors of Chabad-Lubavitch of Mumbai (shown at left) were killed during one of the worst terrorist attacks to strike India in recent memory," the Chabad's New York headquarters said in a statement.
The couple ran the Chabad's Mumbai headquarters. Their toddler son, Moshe, was smuggled out of the center by an employee on Wednesday, and is now with his maternal grandparents, who arrived from Israel on Thursday.
Please Pray With Us: We are praying that God will renew the holy work that the Rabbi and his wife did in India with other people that will continue to bring God to the hearts of many Israelis, Indians and other tourists in the area. We are praying God will fight and win the war against terror! As we pray together, our prayers will be stronger!!!
Light and Mercy would like to update you with new stories of terror victims, soldiers and needy families in Israel that you might like to support and adopt them on a monthly basis, to show them that there is hope and light - The Light of God!
May the G-d of Abraham Richly Bless You!
