Meet Eshchar Hochman
|
Shalom. My name is Eshchar. I served as a combat officer in the IDF and from then on in an active and classified field combat position which is why my face is masked. For many years I served Israel in ways that cannot be made public for security reasons.
I live in a Kibutz, married to Hila and a father to Guy and Eyal. In July 2007 after havng been diagnosed with a massive cancerous brain tumor, I went through an operation for a partial removal of the tumor and came out of it with the left side of my body paralyzed, and with a cognitive damage that is impacting my memory and state of mind.
My disease transformed me from an independent, athletic person, into a disabled man. I need assistance in performing daily tasks, and I find it hard to describe how hard this condition is for me. Although the doctors told me that I will never be able to walk, for my family, as well as for myself, I made enormous efforts, and am continuing to struggle so I can walk again.
Since I cannot prove that my disease was caused by my work, my treatments are not covered by the medical insurance provided by the Ministry of Defense, therefore I need to privately fund all the medical and rehabilitation treatments. Unfortunately, these expenses are beyond our reach. I get a lot fo support from my friends and family, both morally and financially, but the expenses keep growing.
A follow up MRI in February, 2009 revealed a recurrence of the disease in a more violent manner. My doctor, Prof. Ram, manager of the Neuro-Surgical unit in the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center has recommended a cutting edge procedure of Vaccine Treatment. This procedure is performed in Belgium and lasts 4 months. This procedure and other complementary treatments have estimated cost of $250,000. We need to raise this funding Urgently! Any help is highly appreciated!
A person in my condition learns to suppress his ego, and accept help from others. For a long time I have refused to accept donations. Today I realize that I have no choice, therefore I ask for your help. I am 36 years old. I want to live to see my children grow. With your help I might be able to do this.
I am optimistic, strong, and convinced that I will defeat this disease. I know that my family and friends will do anything for me, but I need your help too. Cancer immunotherapy attempts to stimulate the immune system to reject and destroy tumors. BCG immunotherapy for early stage (non-invasive) bladder cancer utilizes instillation of attenuated live bacteria into the bladder, and is effective in preventing recurrence in up to two thirds of cases.
Topical immunotherapy utilizes an immune enhancement cream (imiquimod) which is an interferon producer causing the patients own killer T cells to destroy warts, actinic keratoses, basal cell cancer, squamous cell cancer, cutaneous lymphoma, and superficial malignant melanoma. Injection immunotherapy uses mumps, candida or trichophytin antigen injections to treat warts (HPV induced tumors).
Adoptive cell therapy (ACT) using autologous tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes has emerged as the most effective treatment for patients with metastatic melanoma; this is based on adoptive immunity. Please mark your donation "For Eshchar". Thank you for your help.

Light and Mercy Needs Your Help!
We are having to move our offices. This is not a large undertaking, but one which will require $8000 to pay rent on the one year contract we must negotiate. We are working with many organizations in Israel as a conduit to facilitate the transfer of money and supplies to many in need such as Eshchar. We do not take from the donations given to help these needy individuals. We are entirely dependent on your generousity to keep our doors open. We must aquire a new office space and move before the end of this month. Thank you for your kind consideration.
